A Lawrence Perrott was transported by John Singleton, who claimed a headright for him in 1662 Maryland, though Maryland is where the person claiming headrights was, not the person who got transported. This first Lawrence settled in Kingston Parish, Gloucester Co., Virginia, which became Mathews Co. in 1791.

All the Parrott lines here are the same family, as determined by Y-DNA, and Lawrence is presumed to be their ancestor. How the various families in this group connect to each other is still not known; a courthouse fire in 1820 destroyed all the records that would have shown how these lines were connected to each other.

Today, the Lawrence group is the 2nd largest Parrott family in the US, and about 1 out of every 10 Parrotts in the USA belongs to this family. There is another family that almost certainly belongs to this group, namely, the Parrotts of Northeast Georgia. The evidence is suggestive, but short of conclusive. In the absence of documentation, one of their members will need a Y-DNA test to provide the missing information.

    Find a name:

Descendants of Benjamin Parrott, Sr., in Guilford (later Rockingham) Co., North Carolina, in 1778.
    Family ID #: 062a
A branch of this family moved to Leake Co., Mississippi, taking their slaves with them, who later established their own family there after the Civil War.
Descendants of Lawrence Parrott, from Northumberland Co., Virginia, born between 1700 & 1712; died 1746
    Family ID #: 062b
Descendants of Robert Parrott, who married Sally, Gloucester Co., Virginia
    Family ID #: 062c
Some trees have Robert going back to George & Lucy Longest, but the connection is rather tenous. After Virginia, this family was in North Carolina before moving on to Tennessee.
Descendants of George, b ~1760 Virginia, and moved to South Carolina
    Family ID #: 062d
Descendants of Henry Blanton Parrott, b ~1770 Virginia, and moved to Greene county, Georgia
    Family ID #: 069

This line contains Flippen Y-DNA, not Parrott. The surname appears to come from the founding mother, Nancy Parret, who could be a descendant of Lawrence Parrott in Kingston Parish of Gloucester county, Virginia.

The Gloucester and Matthews County Parrotts

The Lawrence Parrott who was transported in 1662 is considered to be the one who settled in Kingston parish of Gloucester county by 1667. Several lineages later appear in the area (which split off as Matthews county), who are probably his descendants. Not all of these lineages listed here have had their DNA tested; for that matter, it is not even known if the untested lines have living descendants.

As a caveat, a 2nd Parrott group, which may or may not have been related, moved to Matthews county about the time Lawrence's lines appear in the record, making the identification of these lines as belonging to Lawrence even more tentative. A Y-DNA test is needed to determine if this 2nd group is related to Lawrence, or if it has independent origins.
