A Lawrence Perrott was transported by John Singleton, who claimed a headright for him in 1662 Maryland, though Maryland is where the person claiming headrights was, not the person who got transported. This first Lawrence settled in Kingston Parish, Gloucester Co., Virginia, which became Mathews Co. in 1791. All the Parrott lines here are the same family, as determined by Y-DNA, and Lawrence is presumed to be their ancestor. How the various families in this group connect to each other is still not known; a courthouse fire in 1820 destroyed all the records that would have shown how these lines were connected to each other. Today, the Lawrence group is the 2nd largest Parrott family in the US, and about 1 out of every 10 Parrotts in the USA belongs to this family. There is another family that almost certainly belongs to this group, namely, the Parrotts of Northeast Georgia. The evidence is suggestive, but short of conclusive. In the absence of documentation, one of their members will need a Y-DNA test to provide the missing information. |
The marriage bond for Nancy Hanks and Tom Lincoln, parents of Abraham, was signed by John Hughlett Parrott of Washington Co., Kentucky (Lawrence branch). |
